AND JUST LIKE THAT, THE PICTURES ARE BACK

I'm thinking that maybe the picture I tried to post was too big for the blog. Maybe too many colors. Too bad...they were SO undressed. In the meantime, here's a pic of my wife hitting up on underage movie stars...
(For those of you who have seen the Harry Potter movies, you know who these people are. If you haven't, these are the Olsen twins.)

------

This weekend I'm bounding up to Prescott for the Prescott folk festival! Y'all oughta go. Good weather, good times and more pickers than you can grin at. I'm playing at three different times on Saturday, so if you do come up, find me.

------

I know this sound contradictory but I wish it would cool off so I could sit in my jacuzzi.

------
For some reason my computer has decided to stop loading pics to Blogger. So the D-con review is on temporary hiatus until I figure out what's wrong.

------

Meanwhile, on the garden front:

IT AIN'T CORN.

As my very astute friend and botanist Carrie O'Brien guessed out of the blue some weeks ago, what I have growing in my backyard garden of mystery is not corn but in fact SORGHUM. I guess you can eat it but it's producing so little that that's kinda pointless.

------

Nancy Freeman and I played to a small but very generous audience on Saturday night. We gave our tips to hurricane relief and the few people who did show up (there was a LOT going on last Saturday night around town) tossed in about $121. Thanks!

TODAY'S DRAGONCON PIC

The long and short of it.

-----

Santa Monica was a blast; great weather, great food and fun. We checked out Whimsic Alley; neat little store. I also got to check out McCabe's, the fabled guitar store. Pricy, pricy but I bought some picks and an egg shaker.

Oh, that the coast were closer...

TODAY'S DRAGONCON REMINISCENCE: (I honestly have no idea how long I'm going to keep this up)

Now THAT took some work.

------

We're going to the beach this weekend! Santa Monica! That's latin for Big Goofy Pier!
As I know I've mentioned before, the Hooters in Santa Monica has hot wings that must be coming from geese--they're the biggest things I've ever seen. Tasty, too. I will be eating some. Ditto the fast food Indian store at the mall next to the open-air mall. Why is there no fast food Indian food here in town?

One side trip: Whimsic Alley, a store dedicated to Harry Potter merchandise (my wife's a Pothead). I would imagine that we will also be stopping at a particular mall outside LA that my kids demanded we inhabit due to the presence of a Japanese Anime/Toys/promo store.

I'd also like to go to McCabe's guitar store, but we'll see. Down, wallet, down.

DRAGONCON PIC OF THE DAY

This was the most nude costume I saw at D-Con this year. But not by much.

------

Just went to Coppercon here, where they were celebrating their 25th year. In honor of this, a body painter was spraying women's torsos copper. And me without my camera.

------

I think we're gong to see "March of the Penguins" tomorrow. From what I understand it's a documentary on how Pittsburgh got a hockey team. But I could be wrong.

DRAGONCON PIC OF THE DAY

It doesn't take much to make a costume...
(Yes, I changed this photo. I put the wrong one in yesterday...)
More later.

DRAGONCON PHOTO OF THE DAY

The good, the bad, and the cute pudenda.

------

Fingers will be pointed, and news networks will point at different parties, but NO ONE, NO ONE, should have had to wait for rescue, only to drown in that old folks' home in Louisiana. Or in that hospital.

I have no opinion either way for people who decided on their own to stay and brave out the flood, and the disease, and the oil spills, etc. But many people have blood on their hands for not getting those old people out of there. I don't care what party you are.

That's my treestump.

-------

Tonight (Friday) I will be part of the big show featuring Jan's bellydancing group at the Paper Heart Gallery. Come on out! We'll pass the hat at least once for hurricane relief and it should be a good time for all. It starts when you get there -- Grand and Polk streets.

See you there!

One of the coolest moments of my life is now downloadable at this URL:

http://www.themadmusicarchive.com/playlist.aspx?Show=01-22

It's the week I was #1 on the Dr. Demento show. Four years later I STILL don't believe it.

Anyway...

------

We were on VACATION last week!

We went to DRAGONCON!

It's one of the largest, most confusing sci-fi/media/music/party/dance/younameit conventions on the planet!

What did we see?

Over 20,000 overfed fanboys...

and underdressed fan girls...

...standing in huge lines!

But wait -- there's more.

There are always costumes! Anything you can think of!

See?

Even my son had a costume! And my wife busted her ass to make it and it was a huge hit!

There was even a guy there dressed like Harry Belafonte!

Wait a minute, that WAS Harry Belafonte. And apparently he was just there to party!

My wife collects penguins and she got the ULTIMATE one...

She was also a hit in her SMAH-SHING ensemble that she put together herself, complete with third-year beast-book...

I could go on and on...and I probably will later.

But suffice to say that if you've never been to a DragonCon you don't KNOW what a big convention is like. Yikes.
